Anyone can meditate. You don't need to be someone special to meditate. You are special. So just try it.
How we begin
Anyone can meditate. You don't need to be someone special to meditate. You are special. So just try it.
Meditation is not a bunch of complicated techniques. Meditation is a simple state of being. All you need is a few simple exercises to guide you to your own deeper self.
How do we start? By starting. Dont worry about everything being perfect or you being perfect. All you need is a few minutes a day.
My name is Nirbhasa, I am from Ireland, but I have been very lucky to have travelled all over the world giving these classes.
I am a very ordinary person, but meditation has opened up the most unimaginable doors in my life. I hope it can do the same for you.
I hated running before I started meditating. But when I started meditation, running became a way to connect with Nature, with Eternity. I ended up becoming an ultrarunner, and completing distances I never thought possible.
Before I meditated, my relationships it people were always a little transactional. You know: you appreciate me, I'll appreciate you. One of the first lessons I got from my teacher was: "You have to love humanity the way it is now." That always stuck with me.
I could not silence my mind at all when I started. But when I sang spiritual songs and mantras, I could have such beautiful experiences. To this day, singing meditation songs is such an important part of my life
Growing up, I thought I could explain everything with my mind. But I realised that meditaton is not about explanation, it is about connection. When you connect with your own deepest self, you connect with the Divine..
My meditation teacher was once asked - how do you know you've had a good meditation? He answered simply, when you have a loving feeling towards the world. Meditation connects us with the Universe, and with each other. And when you act on that inner feeling and do something good for the world, you feel you've really achived your purpose in life.
Let me tell you a story. My meditation teacher, Sri Chinmoy (that's him on the right), was once holding a meditation. At the end, he asked all the people who gave meditation classes to stay behind. Then he said something like this: You give the classes. You think you are the ones who are teaching them to meditate. Then he closed his eyes and smiled. And then he said. Their own souls are teaching them how to meditate. Their own souls are teaching them how to meditate.
To me, he was a true enlightened teacher, and yet he also did not consider himself the teacher. He said that the Inner Pilot is the only real teacher, and the job of a human teacher is show people the way to the real teacher.
He asked me and my friends to give these classes free of charge. I think he saw how happy it would make us.
So honestly, I'm only passing on the wisdom I learned from my teacher over 25 years. When you give classes and workshops, there is always a risk that you start getting a little proud of yourself. But if I feel that am only a passer-down of this timeless wisdom, then I can stay humble. And if we stay humble, then we can properly serve our fellow human beings.
